CSR activities:

More than 1,100 school children from Vidya Niketan, Bellary Road, Hebbal, who travel by school buses daily, can now alight from and board them in complete safety - thanks to AstraZeneca.

The pharmaceutical company has offered the school the use of its parking lot next to the Process Research & Development Centre (PR&D) for its ten buses that drop and pick up children from home to school and vice-versa.
AstraZeneca’s key initiatives in Bangalore include the donation and maintenance of a fully-equipped ambulance to Comprehensive Trauma Consortium’s (CTC) “Operation Sanjeevani”, a free emergency service for road accidents victims and medical emergencies. It also offers ongoing support in health and education for a needy government school in Katigenahalli village, Yelahanka, near the Bangalore manufacturing unit.

FOGSI , the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India, is taking a new route for its Safe motherhood campaign this year – this time on national network radio and television. It has produced Jeevan Dor (Life-Line), a 13-episode documentary drama for radio and television focusing on maternal mortality, which is one of the highest in the world (308/100,000) . www.fogsi.org/about_us.html

The project is being supported by AstraZeneca Pharma India Ltd. as part of its ongoing efforts to promote safe motherhood. FOGSI and AstraZeneca have partnered several initiatives together in recent years to increase public awareness and education on this topic.

In 2006, AstraZeneca supported FOGSI's unique initiative ‘Suprabha Ganga Yatra', a 2400-km walkathon with member doctors walking 20 kms daily along the Ganges, starting from Gangasagar to Gaumukh and Gangotri, to spread safe motherhood messages and practices. The objective behind the yatra was to make rural women aware of the services that are available to them to make motherhood safer today.

Health camps were conducted for women, with a special focus on younger women, educating them about reproductive health, vaccinating young girls with Rubella vaccine in order to protect them against German measles during pregnancy, giving basic medicines, iron and calcium tablets, etc.

Maternal Healthcare at AstraZeneca is a special portfolio unique to India and is aligned towards finding solutions for the issue of maternal mortality by offering quality products. AstraZeneca is committed towards combating maternal mortality and making safe motherhood a reality for Indian mothers.
