India is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for management students from European Bschools, with the world setting its focus on emerging markets.

IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A), which started the dual-degree programme three years ago, is set to tie up with HEC Paris, a global B-school, for a dual degree. It is also in talks with Leipzig Graduate School in Germany for a similar programme. IIM Calcutta has been approached by a few European B-schools too. IIM Bangalore does not offer a dualdegree programme. Under the dual degree programme, students get to study for one year in a foreign B-school after completing one year in India. While the number of seats for a dual degree programme is limited, the programme offers a student chance to understand markets in two geographies within the same time frame, and earn an additional degree. Further, students can take part in the campus placement process and work in the country.

“Students from European Bschools are interested in learning about the Indian scenario and aspects like how to do business in India. They also want to gain strong international exposure,” says IIMA faculty AK Laha. While six IIMA students participated in the programme in 2008, the number rose to eight in 2009.
