One-Year Post Graduate Programme in Public Management and Policy (PGP-PMP)
The Programme
PGP-PMP is a full-time residential programme in public management and policy with a sharp focus on governance and policy formulation and implementation, infrastructure development, and public enterprise management. A rigorous programme, it has been designed to sharpen the skills and broaden the perspectives of civil servants; managers of government, public enterprises, NGOs; and executives of private sector firms engaged in public management. The programme is open to bright and motivated mid-career managers as well as administrators/ professionals of NGOs and people with legislative experience of all nationalities who intend taking up challenging top management positions in governance, public management and policy. The programme has strong foundations in the conceptual and analytical dimensions of management and policy, and the curriculum is also designed to build on the experience of participants.
The programme builds upon the excellence of IIMA in management teaching and research and its considerable experience in policy research and consultancy to take management to the domains of public policy, services provision and regulation, and management of public organisations and enterprises.
Curriculum
PGP-PMP has about 800 contact or equivalent hours of engagement. The programme has three modules – a core management (CM) module that would be equivalent to a similar module in any leading international one-year executive management programme, a core public management and policy (CPMP) module, and electives leading to concentration in a number of areas. In addition, an international attachment/exchange module would provide the necessary exposure to working at senior levels in public policy and management. The years of experience of IIMA in research and consulting for governments, regulatory bodies, and the public sector are being brought to bear upon to offer this unique executive programme. The programme’s core management module is similar to the ‘building blocks’ of the Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Executives (PGPX) of the Institute.
Pedagogy
The case method of study will be the primary educational method. Interactive lecture discussions, syndicate presentations, field visits, and management games and exercises will also form a part of the pedagogy.
